Mechanical Engineering

The department of Mechanical Engineering at GCEK, Bhawanipatna offers a B.Tech programme and an M.Tech programme in the specialization of Thermal Engineering. This is the biggest department in the College; with a student strength of about 558. The intake capacity in B.Tech programme is 120 while in M. Tech programme, the magic number is 18. The department is also recognized by Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela as a research centre for Ph.D programme. Right from its inception in 2009, the department has been focusing on high-quality teaching along with integrated laboratory experience.

The department is well equipped with instructional and research laboratories, with some of the state-of-the-art scientific instruments and systems. The department is very well equipped with computational facilities and resources both in terms of hardware and software, covering all areas of Mechanical Engineering. The workshop is established in a separate building, where all the laboratories of the department are functioning. The department efficiently uses the technical facility of the workshop in teaching and in setting up in-house experimental set-ups. Apart from conducting practical classes as per the academic curriculum, the workshop is also used by the students of different departments of the College to cater for their needs during research/consultancy works.

The department has a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty. The faculties are distributed into three groups namely Machine Design, Thermal Engineering and Production Engineering. Each group members are always found involved in teaching and research works in different domains of Mechanical Engineering. The strong and interactive curriculum and hands-on learning will make the students capable of taking their career to the next level. Continuing student development programmes and training/ seminar/ conference/ workshops are being organized by the Department on regular basis around the year. The aim is to provide our students with a perfect blend of intellectual and practical experiences that helps them to serve and meet the current need of our society.
